I remember my best birthday was May 7th 2004. What did I do ? Watched the entrie LOTR trilogy including the directors cut extended dvd special. Spent 14 of the 24 hours usefully.

I do remember this day last year.I didnt want it at first but after lots and lots of thinking I made a decision to come to Hamburg.I dont think I have any second thoughts now.

On May 1st 2004 I got an admission to do my masters in Hamburg Germany. (The next one year was an experience which had its ups and lots of downs but what is life without its wonders and blunders.)

6 Month Anniversary

2004 Year in Review

January 2004

I knew that the year 2004 would be a make or break year for me and the year began with lots of expectations. I knew something will happen either for the good or for the bad. Did the expectations fulfill? Read till the end to find out. In Jan I was busy with my project finding genes by computational methods.

How do I rate Jan from a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the best) = 8

February 2004

What did I do in Feb? Only Valentines Day comes to my mind. What did I do in Valentines Day? I presented my project and I got 100 for that. Nothing else interesting happened in Feb as far as I remember and I am not that good with remembering things.

March 2004

In March was our college farewell. I tried to cry at the party but couldn’t, anyways I never had real friendship in college life. “Mustafa Mustafa” is just in movies and I don’t think its there in real life.

April 2004

This was our exam time and I was mostly studying and the rest of the time I was online. I can say that my computer is my best buddy. Sadly on April 27th I knew that the exam that I wrote on that day would be my last exam that I write in India whatever happens.

May 2004

Who can forget May 7th? Yours Truly was born on that day. Everything in May was excellent except for the may weather (We never bought microwave in our house coz. we never needed it) I got admission to study in Germany on May 1st. I also realized that blogging is my passion.

June 2004

I knew that I need to decide either look for a job or start my preparation for leaving to Germany. The entire month I didn’t do nothing but think think and think. I don’t think that it helped me a lot except getting some grey hairs.

July 2004

The one and only movie that I watched Theatre in 2004 was Aayutha Ezuthu. As you can find out .I don’t like socializing. Started my mental preparation of leaving my beloved Chennai (Chennai is the name of my city and not a girls name).

August 2004

Started my shopping and started to learn to cook. Now I call my cooking as ok and the improvement has come after lots of bad cooking.

September 2004

The most important month of the year. September 13th was the D-day. Thought that day will not come but it had come. It was hard leaving Chennai but it’s much better now I guess. Started a brand new life from September 13th.

Life in Hamburg

Things experienced in Hamburg for the first time in my life

Drank beer, wine and vodka (It sucked)

Ate pork, chicken (Was ok)

Went to a disco (What can I Say)

Living alone (Its great)

Brought a laptop and mobile (very handy)

Saw Snow (hoped for a heavier snow)

Eating non spicy food (That’s hard)

So many blonde girls (I don’t have a problem with that)

Summary

2004 was an up and down year as you may have read. I am always a believer and I believe whatever happens always happens for a reason and I should not regret about anything.

What do I expect for 2005?

If 2004 was like a marriage then I hope 2005 is like Honeymoon.

One Month in Hamburg

It has been exactly one month for me living in hamburg and I thought that let me share with you all my experiences in Hamburg.

Let me start with the flight to frankfurt from chennai and it was the most boring 10 hours of my life, the best thing abt the lufthansa flight is that they gave the best Pongal that I have ever tasted.That was the only good thing abt the flight.The plane landed at frankfurt airport half an hour early and i had to wait for my connecting flight for two hours in one of the busiest airports.Frankfurt has nothing interesting other than lufthansa office and tall buildings and nothing is there for tourists.The hamburg flight was a better experience than the frankfurt one and i succesfully reached hamburg fuhsbuttel airport.

When i came outside the weather was a shocker, the sun was shinging but it was cold.They tell me that hamburg has the second worst weather after london.It rains here evey other day and it can also be called as the windy city but they call chicago as one.Hamburg has the second biggest port in europe after rotterdam in the netherlands.It is commercially number 2 after frankfurt and it is the newspaper as well as the night capital of germany.

There is no such thing as a typical german food but here people eat mostly meat and vegetarians are very rare and i find it very difficult to eat outside bcoz almost everything is served with meat.Here there are many doner shops which are run by turkish people and its a good place to eat good food.unfortunately the indian restaurants here are few and its very expensive.The food here is not at all spicy and i got a super hot chilly sauce which was not as spicy as chilly sauce in india.

The best thing abt hamburg is the transport.Everything is on time.The ferry ride is really good and the lake is the best place for adventure activities.

There are two temples here one is the Afghan Hindu temple and the other is the Iskcon temple and i haven,t yet been there.
